Sneak Peak - Bag in a Box

Hi everyone, I showed this Bag in a Box project during my presentation at the OnStage Local event in Perth and was asked how I made it.

I promised everyone that I would post the instructions and a picture of the bag.  This bag has been around for while and I am not sure where I first found out how to put the basic bag together, so apologies for not giving credit where it is due.  This is another sneak peak of the "It's My Party" suite of products.

Supplies

12 x 12 Basic Black Cardstock
12 x 12 Designer Series Paper (DSP)
Candy Dots Brad Bases
It's My Party Enamel Dots
Stick and Tear Tape or Fast Fuse
Dimensionals
Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue
1/16” Hand Held Circle Punch
Bone Folder

Measurements

Cut DSP 3 ½” X 12”
Cut 3 strips cardstock ½” x 12”
Cut 2 strips cardstock ½” x 6”
Cut 1 piece cardstock 2 ½” x 5 ¼”

Technique

Score the 2 ½” x 5 ¼” piece of cardstock at ½” on all sides.  Snip on the score line on the long side to the ½” score line.

Fold up the score lines and burnish with the bone folder.

Put a little glue on each tab and adhere to the outside of the box, these tabs will be covered with the DSP and it gives a neat finish to the inside of your gift bag.  You should now have a box base.

Put double sided tape along the bottom of the DSP piece, on one side only.

Starting in the middle of one long side of the box base, adhere the DSP to the box base by gently folding the DPS around the box base.  Do not crease the side edges of the DSP as you want an oval shape to the bag, but you will need to gently crease the corners where the DSP is attached to the box base to get a neat finish.  Adhere the two ends of the DSP together, this forms the body of the bag.

Put double sided tape on all 3 strips ½” x 12”.  Adhere one strip to the bottom of the bag and one at the top (on the outside of the bag), starting at the join on the DSP so all the joins are on the one side (this will be the back of your bag).

Using the 1/16” hole punch make two holes on each side of the bag at the top making sure that the holes are on the cardstock strip.  Try to make these evenly spaced.  Punch a hole each end of the handle strips ½” x 6”.  Using Candy Dot Brad Base attach the handles making sure that  the handle ends are on the inside of the bag.  Adhere the final strip ½” x 12” cardstock to the inside at the top, this covers the brad pins and gives a neat finish to your bag.  Put the It's My Party Enamel Dots on the Candy Dot Brad Bases.

The rest of the bag you can then decorate as you like.  I used the "YAY Presents" image, stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink and coloured using the Stampin' Write Markers Melon Mambo, Mint Macaron and Crushed Curry along with the Ballon image punched out using the coordinating punch.
