Just Add Ink #127 - Colour Combo
Just Add Black and White and ONE other colour of our choice is the challenge this week at Just Add Ink. I have chosen Basic Grey as my other colour.

Simply Stampin' Challenge Theme Week - Vintage
The theme challenge this week at Simply Stampin' Challenge is Vintage. You just have to love a Vintage inspired challenge.
I have used stamp sets "Vintage Vogue" and "Sincere Salutations" with a colour scheme of Crumb Cake, Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy, Beau Chateau DSP and Neutrals DSP Paper Stack.
The Crumb Cake background was stamped with the Vine and Leaf stamp (not sure how to describe this one) from the "Vintage Vogue" stamp set. The sentiments is from the "Sincere Saluations" stamp set, which I stamped in Night of Navy on a piece of stamped Crumb Cake, I like the finish this gave the sentiment as it took that stark look away.
The flowers were made using the 5 Petal Flower punch and Boho Blossoms Punch and the brads in the flower centres are from the Vintage Trinkets.
I hit a bit of a snag in that I wanted to use Navy ribbon on my card, you guessed it with all the hundreds of metres of ribbon I have I did not have any Navy. White Organza Ribbon colored with Night of Navy solved that problem. It is not quite as dark as I wanted, but I was pleased with the finished ribbon, it has quite a nice shimmer to it.
The final finish for the card is lots and lots and lots of ink on the edges of all the pieces and some Faux Stitching around the Crumb Cake background (this is a bit wonky but I think it adds to the charm of the Vintage card).

Simply Stampin' Challenge #68 - Birthday Wishes
The colour challenge this week at Simply Stampin' Challenge is based on the following colours:
I was shown recently by Debra James on how to make my own Washi Tape, using tissue paper and double sided tape. To make the Washi Tape I have used on this card, I attached a strip of Sticky Sheet to the tissue paper and rolled the Baroque Border Stampin' Wheel over it using Rose Red ink.
I also used the technique of "Faux Stitching" (I felt too lazy today to get the sewing machine out) to give a bit more definition to my card.

JAI 117 Colour Challenge
The colour challenge this week at Just Add Ink is based on the following colours:
The card I have made has used the colours of Daffodil Delight, So Saffron and Whisper White, but I used Always Artichoke for the leaves on my flower, I tried using Whisper White but they got lost on the card (hopefully I am still within the rules of the challenge, but if not that is okay as I was quite pleased with the finished card). I do not usually use yellow much in my card making but when trying to design my card for the challenge a realised I like the colours together with a touch of brown ink.
The carnation flower is made using Daffodil Delight cardstock lightly inked on the edges with Soft Suede. To make the flower I used the 1 3/4" Scalloped Punch, punching out 8 scallops, inked the edges with Soft Suede, misted with water and layered them together using a small brad to anchor them. I then scrunched each layer individually into the centre of the flower until all the layers were scrunched into the centre. Gently tease the layers apart until you are satisfied with the final look of the flower. I found that if you lightly teased the lower layers out first the top layers just form into a nice looking flower naturally without much further teasing apart. Let the flower dry before use (I found this works best, I got impatient and warped my base card with the moisture so had to make another).
The So Saffron strip was punched using the Eyelet Border Punch and lines scored (you cannot see this very well in the picture) to make the frame for the flower strip I made using the Bordering on Romance stamp set from Stampin' Up. I coloured the flowers with the Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write Marker.
Finishing touches of Daffodil Delight Swirls and Scribbles, Whisper White butterflies with pearls and Whisper White ribbon.

Bordering on Romance
I have been asked by some friends and work colleagues to start card classes using Stampin' Up products. The thought is a bit daunting as I have never taught card classes in this format before. But I am willing to give it a go. I have attended enough classes over the years to figure out how to manage it. Organisation is the key, but not one of my strong points.
I have been playing around with techniques and ideas for card sets for these classes. On this set of cards I tried the "Faux Mother of Pearl" technique. I designed the card set around one stamp set "Bordering on Romance" as I was trying to show case the stamp set and what could be achieved from the one set. The sentiments are from the "Sincere Salutations" and "Teeny Tiny Sentiments" stamp sets. I think these two stamp sets are good additions to any stampers stash, as they have so many sentiments in the set.
The colour scheme for this set is just a little bit blue, using Night of Navy, Not Quite Navy, Whisper White and Old Olive (just a touch of this). Blue and white go so well together.
The "Faux Mother of Pearl" finish is made by sponging Shimmer Paint (I used Frost White) on Whisper White cardstock with a piece of scrunched up plastic wrap. I then sponged Not Quite Navy lightly over the cardstock which gave it the blue tone.
The photos do not do justice to the finished technique, but it gives a beautiful shimmering effect.
I have used the Edgelits Dies to create the edging on two of the cards and the scalloped edge on the other. I love this die set, as the piece that you cutoff for one card can be used as a border for the next card. This minimises waste and offcuts. By making 3 cards in a set minimal offcuts and waste are created.
On the 3rd card I used the flower border stamp in the "Bordering on Romance" set and the scalloped Edgelits die to create the scalloped border piece. The die and stamp do not quite match, but it is close enough to give a pretty finish. I coloured the daisies with Not Quite Navy and Old Olive Stampin' Write Markers.
