Birthday Blast - Faux Metal Background

Hi everyone, I am rather excited about this card.  I will be teaching this card at my classes during March.

I created a faux metal background using the Hexagon Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Versamark Ink, Gold and Copper Embossing Powder, Silver Foil Sheets and Black StazOn.

The design of the Birthday Blast stamp set and Star Blast Edgelits dies I cased from Priscilla Ivler.  Priscilla made a beautiful card with a colour scheme of Watermelon Wonder, Pool Party and Silver. I just changed the colour scheme to Copper, Very Vanilla, Basic Black and Silver to match the faux metal background that I had created.

To create the faux metal background ink up the Hexagon Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder with Versamark ink.  Put a piece of Silver Foil sheet measuring 13.8cm x 9.5cm through the embossing folder and the Bigshot. This will transfer the Versamark ink to the Silver Foil Sheet and at the same time emboss it with the Hexagon design. Lightly add Gold and Copper embossing powder, you do not want it too heavy as you want some of the silver to show through.  Heat set this.  Once cool lightly rub the Black StazOn ink pad over the piece transferring the ink.  Do not go too heavy otherwise you will spoil the effect of the Gold and Copper embossing.  You can always add more, but you cannot take it off.

NOTE the debossed and embossed side of the embossing folder.  I inked up the front side of the embossing folder (this is the side with the raised hexagons). You can do the other side, you will just get a different finish which looks just as great.

I have seen this technique where they put the ink on the Foil Sheet before running it through the Bigshot.  I have tried this and it is an absolute pain trying to get the StazOn ink off the embossing folder. The way that I have done it gives a slightly different effect but the clean up is so much easier.  I like the finished effect so this is the way I am doing the technique.

To make the card cut a piece of A4 Basic Black cardstock in half lengthwise.  Fold this in half to create the card base.

Cut a piece of Kraft cardstock 14.3cm x 10cm.  Adhere this to the card front.  Adhere the faux metal piece that you created to the Kraft cardstock mat.

Cut 3 pieces of small dotted Designer Series Paper from the Urban Underground Speciality Designer Series Paper pack 1.5cm x 9.5cm.  One is for the card inside, this is adhered to the bottom of a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock 14.3cm x 10cm which is adhere to the card base.

Cut a piece 7.5cm x 9.5cm of the Basic Black patterned paper with the small X on it.  Adhere the two strips of small dotted print paper to the top and bottom of this piece.  Adhere to the card front, refer to the picture for placement.

Cut a star blast from Copper Foil Sheet using the Star Blast Edgelits Dies.  Make sure to keep the star shapes as you will be using these.

Cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock 5cm x 9.5cm.  Stamp the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Birthday Blast stamp set on this piece using Basic Black Archival Ink.  Using the Stampin' Trimmer score two small lines on all four sides.  Adhere the Copper Foil Star Blast to the top of this piece and then adhere to the card front.

Stamp "Wahoo" on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and cut out using the die in the Star Burst Edgelits dies.  Also cut out a Basic Black frame from the same die set.  Adhere the "Wahoo" piece to the card front and then layer the Basic Black frame around this.

Adhere the Copper stars in place, refer to the picture for placement.
